Bowl 'o moss

Ok, so not really a terrarium - maybe a first step towards one

Had this little ceramic bowl and the last decent weather days, so did a little collecting outside. A plastic spoon scoop of several different mosses (with some of the dirt they were in) and a little clover looking plant that had some red in it. Put a little gravel in the bottom, some aquarium carbon (just laying around anyway, some articles said it was good to use), some orchid moss and potting soil on top, them the moss scoops.

Tada! Bowl 'o moss. Not sure how well it will do this winter (dry air heating), but will keep misted and watered and hope for the best!

Ah, moss. I can almost never keep it alive outside of my tanks. Too dry, I think. Good luck with yours!

From my experiments with northern climate mosses- they are difficult to keep alive indoors or in containers.
They tend to need cool moist air, and lot's of light. Plus a winter dormancy cycle.
It's a catch 22 with the strong light- cool moist air thing. Most indoor lights give off heat- which usually ends up browning them.

Also be aware that tap water kills moss. Use rain water or distilled water.

Good luck, it looks nice!
