Patio Riparium

So. Finally summer is coming to Michigan. I have no more horizontal surface left in my fish room. I'm thinking "let's take this outside!" I have the day off so I finally got it all together:

Filter: Penn Plax Cascade 300 Internal Filter [It came in a cheapo 5 gal rimless kit but it scared my Betta so I'm trying it on this project]

Tank: 20 gallon rimless [$20.00 off craigslist]

Bottom: Leftover Peace River gravel/substrate. Rocks from around.

All the Riparium Planters new and used from Hydrophyte here on TPT!

Bacopa and Baby Pandas from him as well.
Aluminum plant
Purple Waffle
Croton Codiaeum [what the label says]---not sure if this will work.

Bottom: Java ferns on wood

I'll add a peace lily when I can find one and let everything clear for pics.

Sounds like a good concept. Your plants will love the natural light.

I don't know about the croton because that isn't really a water plant. It might work if you just fill the planter with a real coarse gravel instead of the riparium gravel so that there is free water diffusion through the planter. That way it will be more like hydroponic growing.

Here's that 29G that I set up for a goldfish in a greenhouse. The plants were really happy and the Asclepias Mexican milkweed that I put in there bloomed relentlessly.

I'll 2nd hydro about that croton, but hey worth a try. You'll get more colorful and variegated foliage with brighter light with him.

good luck socky!

cheers!

Cyperus would be another good plant for you to use. Do you want some leather fern? I still have a couple extra here.

Thank you! I was hoping for input like this. I bought the Croton since it was in the same section with the aluminum plant that said "High water plants" on the tag! Once I find a small enough peace lily I'll replace it.

Hydro--for now I'm going to see if I can keep what I have alive. Once it looks like a go, I'll come knocking on your door for some umbrella plant and leather fern!

I did add some frogbit and water lettuce to the mix.

Water is still clearing from some of the potting soil off the new plants--pics in a while.

Snow on the Patio!

Drat. It's snowing. Did an emergency evacuation and moved all the plants [except the Croton which will go in the porch planter] to the Guppy tank.

The Famous Traveling Guppy Circus is apparently delighted with all the new roots to swim through, however.

Okay so it's not Spring here yet....
