Though some of those "private" sellers are some of the best bets. Quality and price usually is much better.

I agree with you that private sellers are great but i can't find to many that sell gaboon vipers which is weird thinking they are probably the most common HOT snake in the US besides maybe rattlers.

Be careful getting venomous snakes delivered through the Pittsburgh or Allegheny/Beaver county airports-- my neighbor when I lived in Pittsburgh was a customs agent and they are surprisingly efficient at catching people on both ends of the transaction.

Why the gaboon viper? Fang size, venom load, or both? The rough green is probably my favorite native species of snake in PA, although admittedly it is not venomous...

Im really just wondering and i know the consequences of keeping such snakes. I also have quite some experience with venomous snakes and all. Also i haven't figured out if it is legal or ilegal to keep venomous snakes here in PA, as i saw that they were going to make it ilegal but wasn't sure what i read was in effect or not.

Thanks for finding a description of the permits. But it only talks about copperheads and timbers, and doesn't mention any other type of venomous snakes which leads me to suspect that those are the only ones you can have, but maybe im wrong.

In other posts on the forum you've mentioned that you never have, and wouldn't own venomous snakes, etc etc. Whatever you want to do is your business, but just an fyi:

Gaboon vipers are very illegal in PA-- you would be fined for owning them, if you ever got bitten and happened to reach a hospital in time, routine treatments for venomous bites of this kind cost $15,000-20,000, you risk permanent physical damage, etc etc. If you do find someone willing to sell you one, just make sure to have the proper provisions necessary to keeping such a snake, a la having enough antivenom on hand to save your life when your gaboon viper bites you.

Based on your posts(all reptile related, not fish/plant related) It seems like a reptile forum might suite you better. You would definitely get better advice and more of it.

Agreed.

Which is part of the reason I linked the two places I did- both are also forums.
