Can I go rimless?

Hello, I just picked up a used 55g and will be making a riparium out of it, with a waterfall or 2, or 3? I will be filling no more than 1/2 at most with water and wondering what the requirements are for going rimless? There is a thick 10" glass support across the middle. I have watched videos on removing the rim, but is it advisable for what I will be doing? Thank you so much!

The rim on this type of aquarium is what holds the glass in place. By design the rim fits over the glass on top and bottom. keeping if from bowing. Might work in your case but that is up to you.
