Introduction / Build 125 Gallon Terrarium

So sorry...

I seem to have overlooked and I have failed to introduce myself.

Any way...

I am planning and have partly started to build a 125 Gallon terrarium with a 10 Gallon Aquarium enclosed.

It is going to go very slow as resources are very limited as well as time and health considerations take up tons of my time.

I quit!

Cool idea! You might want to consider de-rimming that 10 gallon, though.

I will be using the rim to hold a glass plate that will minimize water evaporation. There will be enough as it stands because of the filter Which will hang on the end (Marinland penguine 200B -- Biowheel)

Also, what do you plan to do with the aquatic section?

These are some of the plants I am looking at using but I am considering others that are locally available as well.
  • Java moss (Vesicularia dubyana)
  • Riccia (Riccia fluitans)
  • Cryptocoryne
  • Anubias
  • Dwarf vallisneria (Vallisneria Americana)

So from the other thread on lighting here is the plan so far with a proposed alternate.

So these are the bulbs I plan to use in the cheap/easy to obtain shop lights in my DIY light hood:

2 - Coralife T12 Nutri Grow Plant 40W 48 Inch --- on 30 minutes later
2 - Flora Sun T12 Maximum Plant Growth 48 Inch --- on 30 minutes earlier
1 - GE T12 Sunshine 40-Watt Fluorescent 48" Bulb --- on 30 minutes earlier
1 - GE Daylight 40-Watt T12 Fluorescent 48" Bulb --- on 30 minutes later
Or somethig like this ...
These will be paired on timers to allow for a sunrise and sun set and this period will change with the season naturally. So that the longest photo period will be 14 hours during the lonest days of the summer months and 10 hours during the shortest days of the winter months.

The pro posed alternate will be CF Spirals.

Here are the drawings:

There will be glass covering both the 10 Gallon which is inside the 125 Gallon and the 125 Gallon. The glass cover on the 125 Gallon Terrarium will be between the light canopy. So from top to bottom it would sound/look like this: Light / Canopy, Glass Cover for 125 Gallon Terrium, Glass Cover for 10 Gallon aquarium.

I just saw someone's 10 Gallon planted tank derimmed ... it surely give it a different look. FANTASTIC!!!!! is the word to describe it!!!!!!

Do you have any ideas how I could still use my hot filter without the rim? It seem pretty stable with the rim and I am affraid that without the rim It will not have the support it needs.

Yet another delay in my 125 Gallon Terrarium Build.

After a thourough cleaning of the tank, there are a ton of superficial scratches that dull the view into the tank. I plan to polish these out using Cerium Oxide polishing compound.
