Bog Garden Diary

I have a downspout that there was no convenient way to divert away from the house so I dug a dry creek bed and added a bog to the end of the dry creek.

The bog is about 12" deep and filled with a mix of sphagnum moss, sand, and a little soil.
I planted irises, sweet flag, pitcher plants, and corkscrew rush.

Everything seems happy except the typhya minima (dwarf cattail). It is turning yellow and seems to be dying... any idea why? It should be happy in a marginal environment.

Very cool, and great way to use what could be a problem area. Around my downspouts I just have moss jungles, ferns, and rather annoyed frogs.
