Alternative Pond Lining

Howdy there! Im planning to do a little experiment with a 10'x30'' metal frame intex pool this month with my turtles and some fish. I bought the pool new for a decent price but I have read reviews saying that the bottom lining is weak and may puncture with not much effort (you know, turtles and their claws) so I was just wondering if there is anything I can line it with other then pond lining. I have heard of people using billboard tarp or water bed lining, but I am trying to find something readily available with an affordable price tag. Any imput would be greatly appreciated, also recommendations for substrate to put on top of the liner and hold it down would be helpful as well!
I will be documenting my intex pond experiment in the forum as soon as I start, I hope to set it up as a self sustaining aquaponics system (primitive system though).
