Iwagumi and a refugium

Just brainstorming and thinking about a new tank build. I'm in the planning phase of a 40g breeder Iwagumi tank. I plan on having nothing but HC in the tank so my first fear is algae like crazy given high light requirements and minimal plant life. The random thought hit me about a freshwater refugium full of extremely fast growing plants like wisteria or something of that nature. Has anyone done something like this to make a minimalist Iwagumi easier to deal with?

Did you ever try this out? I can't believe your idea didn't get more traction. You totally need to go with floating plants. Something like water lettuce.

I just ordered a finnex breeder box with a fugeray. I'm going to start it with wisteria that soaks up a ton and see how it does. If it helps turn this terrible aquarium it will certainly prove to be an option.
