Algae in a 3 week old dirted tank

So I recently dirted a 40 breeder with miracle gro organic and a sand cap, The tank is cycled at the moment and I've been using water lettuce and salvia to soak some nutrients from the tank..I planted it with swords, anacharis, rotala, crypts, water sprite etc..but noticed some substantial algae forming as of late...
Using med light , running 12 hours a day..should I cut the light back and if so how much for how long?

12 hrs is a long duration. Are you using CO2? Remove what you can by hand and cut light back to 8 hrs and see what happens. What light do you have going? If its programmable maybe do a break during midday so you still get a decent amount of viewing pleasure and still cut back on the light.

I don't remember the name of that algae but I know it's an excess light issue. I would do a 5 day black out and then reduce the photo period to 5 hours and increase to a maximum of 7-8 over the next few weeks.
