I think the thought is to show some pictures of the success that has been achieved by the prescribed methods. It doesn't have to be a current pic. Surely if you're on the forum for 1+ years or so giving out very specific advise you would have some pictures of your tanks and/or plants.

I was trying to find some pics of your tank. Do you have any posted? You seem to have a lot of experience, and I would enjoy seeing the types/styles of tanks you may keep.

Don't want to totally hi-jack, but here's a pic of a tank of mine. Not much of a scape, I was just trying to grow healthy plants and then I transformed it into a scape of sorts in the 2nd pic.

Transformed to this - 3 months later

Individual plants from scape

Just did the 1st wave of planting a few days ago. Mostly attaching plants to rock and wood and placing some moss. I'll be putting up some pics in a few days. Thanks for following.

Posting pics wouldn't be relevant or up to date. The last time I posted pics I had a 29 tall and a 10 gallon. I no longer have either of those. The 29 left the house when I got my 40 breeder and I tore down the 10 gallon when there was no longer any fish in it.

Not much has changed. Instead of 5 Bleeding Hearts and 2 Panda Cories I have 2 female Bleeding Hearts and one Panda Cory. Husbandry, cleaning routines, and such are the same for the most part. Just case somebody comments on my lone Panda Cory, I'm not buying more fish. Once these remaining seniors go, my tank will be a plants only. I'm done with the all crazy that goes with keeping fish alive during hurricanes and blizzards while the power is out for days at a time, even with a generator.

Well getting back to the tank at hand I have started dosing the following:

Nitrogen: 2.7 ml
Phosphorus: 5 ml
Trace: 2.5 ml
Iron 1.2 ml
Potassium: 2.5 ml

It seems like the crypts are still doing well, the Christmas moss is doing well aside form this fuzzy algae here and there. I put a few ghost shrimp in yesterday hoping they could help a bit since SAE and otos don't seem to be arriving any time soon.

The AR is growing and getting a bit thick, maybe slightly more red, but that still needs work. Do I just need to give it time to settle in?

The DHG I replanted about 10 days ago when I started the dosing, and it doesn't look too different, not sure if runners take a bit, or I need to start something different? I've heard Eco complete can make it tough for them. Should I get aquasoil and replace is just in the front spots where the grass is and keep the other plants? Never heard of a mixing of substrates, but may be worth trying here?

I tested my water today and the results were...

pH: 6.5
Ammonia: 0.5 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 20 ppm
kH: 2 drops
gH: 3 drops
Phosphate: 2 ppm

Do you have any dirt under that gravel???
I think most folks on this forum would agree that it is very difficult to grow plants in gravel.

No, I just have the ECO complete. I did finally find a place yesterday that would ship me ADA Amazonia though.

There's nothing wrong with growing plants in Eco complete. The pics I posted in post #34 above were all grown in Eco complete with nothing else in the substrate. As long as your dosing the water column completely it's fine.

And you would be very wrong on that assumption.

+1.

With ECO complete no need for dirt.

To the OP......if you go to Amazonian, you should spend some time reading up on it and understanding how it works. It is a much different animal than an inert substrate, as it leeches and alters the water parameters. You really need to know what you are doing when using it.

I have just been trying to figure out why my carpeting is failing. I've seen a number of posts saying it's tougher to carpet with ECO and at this point feel like I need to change something. Even if it is possible with ECO, anything can help is the mentality I would say I'm going with. I assume you guys would say I should play with parameters more before jumping ship on the substrate then though?
