my 1st attempt at a nano 2.5 iwagumish?

hey everybody! i decide to start this tank about 2 1/2 months ago. i have a towel rack/shelf in my bathroom that had a 1 gallon vase that i had dwarf hairgrass and moneywort but look kind of awkward. i spotted these 2.5g at petsmart and measured it then my shelf presto exact fit so i bought it and replanted the hair grass and moneywort i let the grass grow emersed for about 3 weeks until it developed a good root system then planted the moneywort and a neat rock i got that looks like a butte.

stats
2.5 cheapo from petsmart
zoomed 501 canister
18 watt zilla/coralife pc fixture w/ 1 ott light,1 5500k
fluorite black sand
diy co2 diffused through filter

flora
dwarf hairgrass
moneywort

fauna
5 cardinal tetras
1,000,000 or so pond snails

ferts
e.i.ish

i know calling this iwagumish I'm gona get alot of feedback (hopefully)
so bring it on! thanks for looking
your buddy,
Paul

The tank looks awesome! My only concern is the livestock choice. You have really beautiful Cardinals, but I would advise you to stick to shrimp or a betta for a tank of that size. You have to remember, that 2.5gls is the empty volume too.
Other than that, I wish I could grow Dwarf Hair grass like that. I suck at thst stuff. Tried it twice and it never spread or carpeted.

A background would do wonders for this tank. Looks really nice IMO. Sorry >_< not a very constructive post.

searun; thanks buddy! that means alot. i plan on moving the cardinals soon.i got them because i had a big planaria? outbreak and a lot of other micro organisms. being it only had snails. i have 4 caridina japonica in my 20g and plan to remove the cardinals and add 3 amano's. any thoughts on this?

gamexeater; thanks alot. what kind of background did you have in mind?

I would try yellow shrimp or tiger shrimp instead. That way you can start a colony and get them to breed for you. The amanos can't breed in fresh water. Otherwise it looks nice. I would recommend a couple of smaller rocks and changing the bacopa to something with smaller leaves. Maybe Lindernia variegated. I have it in my tank and it's like made for a nano, small leaves and nice light venation.

Check out this link, about the third or fourth post in:

Any background really because seeing the equipment (the filter :P) in the back kind of throws off the perspective of the tank. You could paint the back with like black or blue paint o.o but i just use a piece of black bristel board that sits behind the tank wedged up against the glass by my equipment and stuff.

gamexeater; i hear you! i hate seeing the equipment behind the tank. i painted the back of my 55g black to hide every thing but ended up hating it. i didn't like the perspective i got it made the tank imo 2 dimensional. there is another shelf under it I'm gona try moving everything down there but I'll have to get longer hoses for the 501 and see how the flow is or try a white background but inevitably your right it makes the tank look small .thanks for the feedback
chrispar; i would like to find a couple of small rocks that match but thats the only one i've ever seen and i realy like the "butte" style of it its very american to me?
