Sounds good to me, except the live stock. You can only have one male betta in a tank, or else they will fight, but you can keep more than one female in the same tank. Also, the betta fish will probably eat the shrimp. My betta love java moss, he's always swimming through it or resting on it. The undergravel filter might cause problems with the plants, so you might want to consider a small canister or hob.

Oh, by the way, betta fish don't like strong currents, so keep that in mind when getting a filter. I have an aquaclear 20 set to its lowest flow setting, it does the job and doesn't bother the betta.

Tanks with more than one female betta are called sororities and for them to live peacefully you need a school or 6 or more so they can establish a pecking order, and that means at least a 10-gallon tank (with plenty of hiding places). Sorry...

But that would make a great tank for a single betta. It would be happier alone, honestly. They're very territorial fish. Shrimp or an ADF or two would make the best tankmates (although, IME shrimp usually wind up getting eaten...)

I have a 6-gallon eclipse with single male betta and 7 neons. Everyone gets along great, but not every betta likes company...

Thanks for the ideas. Does anyone know of a cheap filter for the aquarium??? I was thinking the tetra whisperer 10i filter (I have the 30i) I really like the tetra idea Strick!

The tetra whisper should be fine for that tank.

If you get neons, make sure you get at least 6 or 7. Any less than that and they start nipping the betta's fins. Be aware that some bettas don't want anything else in "their" tank. Have a backup plan in case of hostilities.
