tips for water change in nano?

Anyone have tips for water changes that don't completely f' up the substrate? right now i've got it siphoning from a large bucket VERY VERY slow...like 1/2 G a minute.......how are you guys doing water changes in these small tanks without completely messing up the substrate.

For reference, this is a new ADA 45P of mine...has amazonian soil which likes to move around quit a bit.

if you have space for a small plate put that in and let the water hit that instead of hitting the soil. even a plastic bag works. just need something to block the water flow from hitting the bottom

If you're using a hose to refill the tank, then just point it up underwater, rather than down.

If you don't have room for a plate you can sink a plastic cup and put the siphon hose inside of it. The fill water will gently flow over the rim of the cup.
