Cheapo Tank

Well, I have an old 2.5 gal acrilic aquarium my daughter was not using, so I went to a pond at a park close to my house with dip-net in hand. I just set up my aquarium with two pieces of hornwort plants, 3 ram-horn snails (two of them were pretty big) and about 20 grass shrimp. Over ten of them have eggs!
I have a tank that has a bunch of perch and crappie in it, so I was able to scoop up enough bacteria to get it cycling fast.
It ain't pretty, but it sure is relaxing to watch....

This will tie me over unti I get my moss tank established and get a few cherry shrimp...

okay, here are a few pictures. I had to take video and capture pictures from it, so they are not that clear.

You need to excuse the rocks, they were the rocks that were in my daughter's aquarium, but I did pick out most of the clown puke, LOL
I did not have any rocks to break up the open bottom, so I had to resort to a broken taracotta pot. This tank is just temporary to get a little experience with shrimp. I bought some moss from a couple of members here in the forum.

Have you taken a small mesh dip-net and gone to a pond, ditch, or any place that hold water all the time? Drah the net through any grass that is in the water and you may just be surprised. I am not how far North they will survive. It may be worth an expedition.

I am glad I took those pictures. It is amazing how fast the plants are growing. It is growing more than an inch a day, at least!
