new 5 gal planted tank

Hello everyone, i am new to this planted tank hobby. this is my first planted tank. i have a 5 gal low tech tank. The plants inside this tank are:
Christmas moss
needle leaf ferns
anubius petite
Currently i have a 15w daylight bulb over it. i have a hob filter running this.
Livestock:
red cherry shrimps(tons)
1 oto
1 neon tetra.
I hope you guys enjoy and like it, if you got any suggestions that will make this more gorgeous i would l happily consider them.

hey, cool tank! here are a few suggestions though -
- first off, get a new filter. i have the same one (hagen elite 5, right?) and i hate it. a tiny canister or a 10g filter would keep the tank much cleaner and provide enough flow to keep algae away more effectively.
- secondly, i like the layout so far, with the branches-coming-from-the-corner look. Try to push all of the branches back as far as you can to create as much depth as possible. its all about depth in aquascaping, lol. then you can put more anubias petite in the front. or even nana.
-also, your light may end up being a little bright. if you see any signs of algae starting, be careful and raise the light higher up above the water.
- the back left corner looks really empty. i'd suggest a small bushy plant of some sort to go along with the bushy feel of the java ferns. maybe HM or some nice rotalas or micranthemum umbrosum or something.
- not to be too negative though, i dont mean to take anything away from this tank. youve actually done a great job so far, t seems like youve bought yourself a good tank, some great plants, and a really high-quality light. and it seems like the shrimp and fish are doing well, so you have definitely set up a nice addiction for yourself.

but most of all, welcome to plantedtank.net! and welcome to the coolest hobby everrrrr hahah youll be hooked before you know it, and your tanks wont just be tanks, theyll become art. its fun stuff, really... wow i sound like such a nerd. :P

Cool little tank and welcome to PT!

I like the tank as it is! Few additional suggestions..
- Paint the back of tank black (of course don't paint it while it is filled, but with a 5G that shouldn't be too difficult)
- A single neon is not going to do well, they tend to want to school; check out the nano fish list thread

Looks good.

That's a lot of Needleleaf, though. By the time the Anubias and Christmas Moss grow appreciatively, you might not be able to see them through all the ferns.

Otherwise, you're off to a good start.

you probably should add more or that poor little creature might not do well for long as well. But since you already lost 80% you should check if your tank has cycled yet or not before adding any more fish.

Nice setup btw.

Patience is the name of the game.
