Setting up Mimi M

I am thinking of setting up a ADA Mini M on my kitchen counter and was wondering what filter I could use. I have granite counter so I will not be able to run tubing down under that tank so I don't think I can use a canister filter. I will be using CO2 and haven't yet decided on the lights but was thinking of starting out with the HD 27W desk lamp that I have seen other here use (at least to begin with).

Any suggestions on what filter to use?

Don't the Eheim have to be set up below the tank, not at the same level?

As ldk pointed out, my Mini-M's on a countertop and an Eheim 2232 will be below the water line even when placed right next to it.

Thanks for the input! I think I now know how I will go on this. Now I just need to get the nerve up and do it!
