Fishwood's 1.875 Gallon Leftover Pico

It dawned on me while sifting through all my equipment from past saltwater projects last night that I have enough junk stashed in my storage bins to build another pico, so this thread launches the journal of that project. Unlike the office project, which is sucking way too much money from the wallet, the objective for this tank will be to spend as little as possible without making the aquarium look stupid.

Pictures to be added this evening, but here's a prelude.

TANK: A 6'' wide x 6'' deep x 12'' long "aquarium masters" aquarium that weighs in at a muscular 1.875 gallons.

LIGHTING: Either the picotope fixture, which I need to slip a 6700k bulb in (it has the 50/50 actinic in it now), or a big arsed desk lamp with a screw in CF.

FILTRATION: The cheapest HOB I can find.

TEMP CONTROL: The flat pad hydor mini heater (7.5 watt?)

SUBSTRATE: I'm contemplating experimenting with soils as a base layer, with aragonite sand on top. I may come up with something else entirely.

FLORA: Only the hard(i)est species

FAUNA: A baby rainbow trout

Stole some rocks from my apartment complex's landscaping beds for this one. Found a few decent pieces that might even be conducive to this Iwagumi style.

Took some photos, will upload tonight.

Total budget outlay so far: $0

Here's a shot of the "leftovers" tank. It's not wet yet and still looks a little rough. I'm using a 24 watt CF bulb in the fixture but may downshift it to a 13 watt bulb pending how things shake out.

The rocks in there now are not a hardscape, just a few pieces I picked up that I will select from later. Still need to work on a substrate, not sure what I'm going to use. I think I'm going to use a red sea nano filter. I may just put in a single plant species and see if I can get a full carpet going.
