1/2 gallon Pico (questions)

I finally got my first dirted pico tank up and running!

1/2 gallon glass cylinder vase
Miracle-Gro potting soil w/ sand cap
13 watt cfl bulb desk lamp
Fauna: two juvenile RCS
Flora: Java fern, java moss, and ludwigia repens

Now onto the questions:
I have some Omega One shrimp pellets, should I throw one in? I don't want to dirty the water with unneeded food but I also don't want the shrimp to starve.
Am I at my max for shrimp population? I've heard RCS breed like rabbits, but the fish shop guy told me he'll be getting in some other fancy shrimp soon and the shrimp bug has bitten, so I want more If the tank is maxed out I'll just have to start up another...
Any plant suggestions?

I would feed once a week before doing a water change. Shrimp are detritivores anyways so they don't need a lot of food and since you're going the filterless route, this will keep ammonium at bay. with only two juvies, you might have to crush or break up the pellets a little bit so they are easier to manage. I have CRS, cherries, and yellows all in a 1.5 gal pico tank, but I think .5 might be pushing it for space. You could set up a series of jars and vases that are species jars. That would be really cool!

I was thinking about doing something along those lines with the "Betta Falls" (http://www.amazon.com/Aqueon-1218-Kit-Betta-Falls/dp/B00INCRSFC) tank. I don't think it's appropriate for a betta, but I thought I could keep different varieties of shrimp in each partition of the thing.

Regardless, DO IT! Good luck!
