Lilies

Hi all,

I'm just in the process of setting up a 5 gallon planted tank, with the hopes of eventually breeding Betta Splendens (I have a 7 gallon that will house the female when the time comes). I'm wondering if there are any lilies that will survive in such a small environent, since I'll need leaves on the surface of the tank fro breeding anyway. Any thoughts?

I personally like the Red Root Floaters (Not sure of their scientific name off the top of my head). I think they look pretty cool. Thats just one suggestion, there are plenty others, but that should be something for you to look into for now at least.

For your bettas you might consider using dried indian almond leaves, they seem to really encourage bettas to spawn and they also will give your boy a place to build his nest, and would probably be more effective than living plants. I highly suggest perusing this site: http://www.ultimatebettas.com/index.php?showforum=13 as they have a lot of experience with breeding bettas and taking care of the fry. There are a lot of difficulties that come with spawning and raising fry, and these people are very kind and helpful. Best of luck with your spawn! I hope you'll let us see baby pictures as well as some shots of mom and dad. :3
