2.5g Aka The Short Life

So I set up this 2.5g tank 2 months ago. And before then I GLUED all my rock work in and my caves and things planning on the future shrimp. Then I dry started my Mini Pellia carpet for a couple weeks so it could take hold of the substrate and then cycled it it for 3wks with a used sponge filter from another tank to speed thimgs up with the ADA soil.
After that I stocked it with 4 Crystal reds and 3 cherry shrimp.
I checked the params every day for the first few days and everything seemed fine. I wasnt worried about TDS just yet as I was sure the tank hadnt fully settled and I had used some cycled water from another tank mixed with ro/di water. After week 3 is when the problems began. My PH of the RO water is Below my API scale of 6ph. And the starting TDS reading in the tank day one was 120. After 3 weeks with 7 shrimp and minimal feeding on mostly leaf litter the TDS has risen to 290! And PH was up to 7.8 or so. So I did several small water changes with 100% ro/di water with a tds in the single digits and got it down to 70 and PH right about 6.2 in a about a weeks time. Waited 3 days and checked params and the TDS was back up to 160 and ph around 7.0. And this kept happening so I started researching why and found out that my Pagoda Stones are whats effecting my TDS and PH. And the fact that there glued in the tank am just going to have to tear down and start over. I could just settle for a Cherry only tank and they may or may not breed depending how high the params get between normal wat change days. But I want a Crystal Tank and only room for ONE.... Aka The Short Life

That last picture almost looks like the shrimp is painted. The color changes are so sharp. Have you looked close enough to determine if the alternations in color are determined by the body segment? Also, can you tell me if the CRS are able to breed in the aquarium just like RCS do?

Yes I beleive this is one of my crs that the color seperation and segmentation are right in line. And they will breed if you have the tank set up properly. Thats why this tank is being torn down as we speak. I couldnt control the PH or the TDS parameters at the right numbers and be consistent. So a successful spawn would never take place I do not beleive.
