15 Gal Betta Rubra breeder

The tank is having some substrate issues at the moment, dang flourite is dusting everything in red -.-. There's some exposed flourite behind the wood and a bit underneath too. Doesn't seem to be much I can do about it.

Anyway, I'm working on getting it resolved, as I'd really like my low light plants to be able to actually grow instead of be coated in red dust, but I just did I major trim and thought it would be nice to share.

I expect the fish to hate me for the forseeable future. They do not like it when my fingers enter their water at all.

It's not often you see someone on this forum who owns wilds...I hope they breed for you! By the way, what are the water parameters? (I am pretty sure that this is one of those bettas that strongly prefers soft, acidic water).

They do need pretty acidic water, though rubra are among the easiest wilds to breed. pH below 6 and you're pretty much good as long as they're in good shape haha. They've bred a few times. Unfortunately one of the times, the male swallowed, two of them the fry were eaten on release, so I'm trying to work that out. I've only seen actual fry once from them, they were very nice and I ended up selling them to another breeder

Sweet been looking for some Rubras, I've got Macrostomas, Simplexes and Albis. Ive had success finally with them in small numbers after years and years of trying.

Well, I have bad news and good news. The bad news is my female died yesterday. She suddenly came down with a bad bout of popeye and columnaris and just could not hold on anymore, despite me forcibly passing water over her gills for half of the night. She did not make it

The good news is, due to that, I was looking to rehome my male, since he's a pure wild strain aceh, not particularly easy to find. I was quite honest about it on the site I was using and upfront that I just couldn't afford to buy a female for him right now.

So the breeder I got him from, a friend from the IBC, is sending me another female on the house :3 A true wild strain aceh girl this time. So even though I'm still heartbroken over my baby dying, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The new girl should be here on Wednesday.
