Planting Again

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I talked about doing a planted tank. I am going to be aquascaping a fluval spec v tank in the next couple of weeks. I am going to be planting Anubias, micro sword, Java fern, anacharis, hornwort, hygrophila, and maybe a Val. For aesthetics I will be using mossimo balls as well. Within my tank I will be using a small piece of driftwood to anchor my anubias. My question to everyone reading this is what substrate do you prefer, dirt/sand mix or other? Also, what are your thoughts on CO2 use? This tank will be housing a betta. Thoughts?

Welcome to the Spec club!

If I was setting up a tank right now I would probably try the black diamond blasting sand

I can't speak for it personally but it looks nice and it's cheap

My thoughts on co2 use are - yes

My low tech tanks subsist plants and there is some growth but IMO the best combo is medium light / high co2

Fully planted bottom

What type of plant would completely cover the tank bottom?
