Carpet Recommendation for Fluval 8 G

I'm about to start tank no 3, and this time it's a nano.

The tank is supposed to be a shrimp tank, and came with a decent light and gravel (I should look up the exact specs). Edit: It's Fluval, and the substrate is fluval statrum. Light is •13W 6,400

I'm planning on using Excel until I get a pressurized system for this tank.

Is it possible to have a carpet with only Excel and other ferts?

I have the same tank and tried hc and I don't think the light was strong enough. I added a second stock light and am currently trying a dwarf hairgrass carpet. Dhg has only been in about 2 weeks and doing well starting to get runners here and there. My plants seem to love the fluval stratum but it's not the easiest thing to plant hc in. Also for the record the fluval mini co2 bell is not very efficient. I just switched to a pressurized system and it's made a pretty big difference. also I love the shape of the tank but I'd recommend pulling the background off and re gluing it. I've heard some stories of it coming loose and shooting out of the back of the tank along with your lights and anything else in its way.
