6 gal fluval edge dirted dsm

So as the tittle says my goal is to pull off a organic potting soil substrate and start the dry start process with star grass java moss and crypts from my 55 and pick up some petsmart dwarf hair grass in the emersed packets they sell now.

Tank is a 6 gallon fluval with the top cut off very cool tank now

Dirt substrate sloped towards one back cornor and a lil cliff built so I can start some moss and cap it all with sand...

I have one 26w cfl in a shop style reflector. I leave it on a timer so it's on for 8 off for 8 hrs and I'll mist/water which ever is needed just as the lights come on... Lighting advice welcome

Cover the top with some saran wrap

So my questions with dirt ammonia can be expected in high levels when the tank is flooded and that can melt plants what type of things do I need to worry about with the dry start?

Do I make a diluted dry fert mix for the water I use?

How deap should the dirt layer be?
Do I need to worry about adding anythin after I sift it?

Well, little update

Tanks been set up for 1 week or so
Set up
1.5" organic potting soil mixed in ozmocote plus

1" play sand cap

Light is on clipped to side of tank 12hr off 12hr

Plants
DHG belem
S. Reopens
Java moss on rocks

Few questions

how soon can I expect to see noticable growth?

Repens are melting not to bad but told have turned black and wilted then fell off over a week or so. See pic. Should i trim that up or just leave it?

Lights go on at 6 am off at 6 pm should I lower that. Ideas on lighting schedule welcome?

Thanks for looking

Another update more melting from s. Repens and a lot of the dwarf hair grass has melted in the middle where the light is the most intense. Should I go ahead and flood?

Im no expert n the DSM (trying it soon myself) but it looks like you have too much water in the tank.

From what I read, the soil/substrate only needs to be moist, not flooded like yours.

Hope someone with more experience can chime in

^^ That's my impression as well, although I, too, am not super familiar with DSM.

A 12-hour photoperiod seems long as well. Are they supposed to be that long for DSM, or should you lower that to a normal 8 hour photoperiod?
