Outside branches for a nano?

Could I use some branches from a eucalyptus tree outside for my nano? I really like the look of the branches, but Im worried if it contains any harmful chemicals. If so, how would I sterilize it?

Are there any other safe alternatives to this "outside branches" idea?

Thanks in advance

best thing to do is soak it in a bucket for a couple days, then throw a cheap hang on back filter and throw in a cheap fish thats hardy, you'll know if its fine soon enough

I would be concerned from the standpoint that it's a Eucalyptus tree, natural oils present in such a tree probably wouldn't be so good in an aquarium. I would also be weary of 'fresh' branches from any sort of tree, green wood would have a greater tendency to rot.

You need to find wood that died but not rotted for a while.

A good source is: http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/doc...ing/wood.shtml

eucalyptus twiggy branches look very similar to Manzanita branches,
which everyone agrees is much safer for submerged aquarium use.
