A wee bit stuck with aqua-scape! help!

Hi Guys, this is my 2.5 nano which has been running for about 3 weeks now. I set it up for my Ecology class presentation/experiment, but I am definitely in a rut on how to finish'er up!

Its 12 (long) by 5 (wide) by 8 (tall) inches
DIY Yeast CO2
27w CF lighting
Internal fluval filter
Temp is steady at 78F (no heater)

I want to keep the plants in there (except for the dwarf mondo grass. That'll go when it starts to die off. I just used it to help cycle the tank). I was going to do some snails and cherry shrimp, but Im also open for any suggestions. I dont have any access to anything "nano" like fish, so this is tricky. I know this might be pushing it....buuut could a do a fw dwarf puffer? I know that would limit the tank mates as well....so as you can see Im super stumped on what to do next!! ANY advice is gladly welcomed!!

(Please keep in mind that this tank is a "360" tank..it is viewed from all angles and sides and has no offical "front" or back")

Some Hemianthus Micranthemoides would look good in there.

Yup, they look similar in color and can be planted as a ground cover or like a bush. Its very versatile. I have some I could ship to you, but it would be very expensive. Im going to try and find you some in Canada right now.

I don't know if these could be shipped into Canada, but it will at least give you some ideas on small fish. There are some others in other spots on his site that are small as well. I have a dwarf puffer in a nano that is 10X10X10, heavily planted. She is doing very well, but is the only fish. I would not keep her in anything smaller.
How about some shrimp?

If you're ever in Vancouver, Aquariums West on Broadway, and King Ed's on Kingsway in Burnaby usually offer a good selection.

I'd suggest Roger's Pets in Surrey also.
Aquariums west has a nice selection but a bit on the $$ side (since they're dt)
