Just got some Glosso, and it's my first time with it. My 20g long isn't ready(Staghorn & BGA), so I'm putting it in a 2.5g tank that currently has a 13w PC & reflector kit from AHsupply, with Onyx sand substrate. Will this be enough to sustain it?

I'm not entirely sure, I'm trying to grow dwarfhairgrass in my 2.5 with 13w AHSupply.

I wonder if anyone has had experience with this?

I have a LOT better luck with aquatic plants than with houseplants ... mb this is a sign.

Actually, I had more time to spend reading different threads from searches and eventually found Ugly Genius has a 2.5 with 13w & has glosso growing well, also with just using Flourish Excel. He also has hairgrass.

His tank would answer both our questions, hehe.

Hi. Just registered. This is my first post.

Anyway, I've grown glosso and E. parvulus very well in a 2.5-gallon tank using only an 8W normal-output fluorescent strip light. The Glosso spread very quickly and once it got into shaded patches, it would grow upward. After a while it got out of hand and I ripped it all out and started over. The hairgrass was more recent - similar thing happened. After a few months it got everywhere and smothered out everything else. One day I decided to do a little thinning, but it ended up being another do-over. It was impossible to merely *thin* so I just tore it all out.

I think that what helped a lot was the Flourite. I wasn't doing much fertilizing at the time but they still established quickly and spread like wildfire. I also have the tank set up with DIY CO2. I guess enough gets in there to keep the plants happy.

13W is definitely enough for either of these. Just watch for algae problems. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. So far it is doing ok. Glosso has "perked up" since it's ride through the mail system . I'll have to see how the hairgrass does, as it was just a few bits salvaged from my 20g.
