This is kind of a spinoff of jread's post. But I'm also trying to get my 10g planted tank going. I have two 10g single tube fixtures to put on it. Each light has a 15w bulb. In jread's post it says that 3 wpg in a small tank is moderate light? I thought that would be pretty strong light. Considering most people say anything over 2 is getting pretty strong. Please explain the different in the nano tank set ups.

Also, in a 10g I want co2 going right? I actually have two Co2 things to put in there, but just one DIY will work right, or should I use both?

I'm about to go buy a bulb for one of my 10g light fixtures, like I said its 15w. I was just wondering what bulb I should get. I know a difference in bulbs is in the x,xxxk and I was wondering if the fixture matters in the K's of the bulb, can I get a 10,000k bulb, or do I need a 6,700k or whatever the fixture is designed for.

Thanks for the help. I've posted quite a bit about setting up a planted tank, I've just been rearranging a bit, so eac time inspires new questions. Thanks for you patience and help everybody

Chad

I have a 10 gallon with 2 screw in 10 watt compact fluorescent bulbs (the ones from Walmart) and this tank has plenty of light IMO. I also have a Hagen system hooked up to it and it seems to work very well.

Yep. Actually my plants are growing a little to good. It looks like a jungle in the tank. Here is what I have:

Rotala Indica
Wisteria
Dwarf Hairgrass
Crypt Wendtii
Corkscrew Val
some kind of Ludwigia but I'm not sure (I forgot what it was)

The hairgrass is starting to spread out finally now that I spaced them out a little. The Val is also starting to spread out and I may have to move it.

As for the WPG on small tanks - it just doesn't work.

I have a 1/2 gallon with a measily 7w over it - if I were to go with WPG, that would be 14WPG...

30w over 10g is a pretty decent amount, but not necissarily HIGH lighting in respect to the "WPG rule". 55w PC plus 20w NO over my 20g long isn't even "high", IMHO.

I'm going to do a 15g-high(sameW & L of a 10g) lower-light and will go with either two GE 9325k 15w bulbs, or one of those and a 15w 6700k bulb for a total of 30w.

I guess I don't buy into this wpg rule too much. I use experiences with reef tanks to kinda judge the lights. I am using the original 8 watt light bulb with an eclipse 3 and my plants are doing fine. They aren't growing as fast as my higher light tanks but for an office tank they are really growing.
I have a 20 gal tank at home. I have a 3X36 watt JBJ Fixture over the top with some harder plants to grow. I too use a Hagen CO2 fixture, and I am having to prune weekly. However after about 6 months or so, I had to cut back on the lights since I noticed algae growing on the glass.
