Dosing Nano's (Questions)

Question 1)
Anybody care to share their tips for measuring out Excel or other products in their nano? For example when you read the lable, it says a capful = 10g dose to start and then 1 capful per 50 gallons afterwards. Well my tank is 2.5 gallons, and maybe my first shot could be a partial capful but there must be something better to measure how much I'm adding?

Question 2)
How early do you start dosing a new setup? Basically my tank has been filled with some scrub plants for about 24 hours.

Well form what I hear you want to dose about .5 mL. A mL is about 10 drops so 5 drops would be about right. Thats what I'm doing at least. You can probably start dosing right away.

Do you just put the drops into the tank? Or premix it into something like a soda bottle? & What do you measure the drops with? Or make the drops with?

I have just been putting the drops in the tank and mixing the water around with my hand a bit.

Best tip ever... get a 1ml syringe for dosing. This is going to help you a ton!

A drop is not exact... wiki lists it as 12-20 drops per mL, but I always heard 1 drop = .05 mL (1/20) so thats what I use. I have a $1 Walgreens eye dropper, and I just count the drops. I basically use the whole seachem line.

I started dosing as soon as I put the plants in, don't know if thats the best way to do it though.

Also if your not doing CO2, Flourish EXCEL is a must.

1 ml syringe - your vet or doctor will give you one for free.

cheapest and best droppers i've ever had.

Then i mix a solution of excel and source water(whatever you use to fill the tank.).
I dose 1ml of my solution per day in my 2.5.

You'll have to do some solid math to figure out what you need to make in the solution. I think mine is like 29ml excel to 1450 ml water.

I wouldn't dose anything other than excel unless you've got finicky or hungry plants. If you've got easy, begginer plants, they'll be fine without ferts. i didn't use ferts for a year and a half and did just fine. still i only dose Phosphate and nitrate every 2 weeks on my 55, and every week on my 2.5 (The 2.5 has finicky plants).

If your plants aren't using all the nitrients, you'll get horrible algae.
