Favorite Heater?

What's your favorite heater? My tank is at 74, and I need to bring it up to 80. It holds about 4 gal. after displacement. Would you use a 25 or 50 wt? Which one is the least obtrusive, but still reliable?

I have the 7.5 watt hydor heater, it works good but its not preset to any temp It just raises the tank temp by about 5C above the room temp, so if your room is really cold the tank can be aswell.
i lost a betta because i left my window open at night and my room got too cold.

I just bought a new heater for my 2.5g, its a 10watt made by marineland and its preset to 78F, really small as well, this heater says its made for up to 3g so it may not work for your tank though.

ps. your reef tanks look amazing.

My favorite heater for small tanks (any tank not run w/ canister filters and an In-line Hydor Heater) is the Visi-Therm Stealth Heater by Aquarium Systems / Marineland.

I'm using them on four different tanks. Not one problem with any of them. In a tank as small as 4 gallons I'd go with the 25w. Also, notice the length (25w: 8.25") to be sure it will fit in your size tank.

Thanks everyone, I got two hydor theos yesterday. They are fairly small. I don't like the idea of a heater I cannot change or adjust if I need too.

I would have recommended the Visi-Therm Deluxe or Visi-Therm Stealth 25 watts. They are VERY reliable.

I agree, the visi-therm stealth is one of the best heaters out other, IMO.

So far (yeah, only 2 days... so what?) I really like the little 10 watt Marineland heater that is preset to 78 degrees F. It is actually keeping my tank at 78 degrees exactly in a room that fluctuates throughout a 60 - 75 range every night/day. Pretty good for a little $20 heater. And tiny too!
