Eclipse 6 for a planted shrimp tank, how many shrimp should I get?

I have a new Eclipse 6 that I am setting up as a relatively heavily planted tank. Low tech for now. I want this tank to primarily be for Red Cherry shrimp. How many could I fit in here? I don't want them to get lost amongst the plants as I want to actually see them, but I don't want to be too crowded. I may get a few small livebearers such as guppies or endlers as well.

You probably can house easily up to 50 give or take. You should start with maybe 10-20 and just have them reproduce and you will have plenty in no time. I have a 2.5 with 10+ and it seems a little empty even with that many.

if you really want your shrimp to do well a shrimp only tank would be the best way to go.

if you want to save money just get like 12 and be patient, as long as you have a good environment for them they will reproduce like crazy!

Lets say I'm not patient.

Would starting out with 30 or 40 be a bad idea?

You should at least start with 5-10 to make sure they don't die before spending money on 40. Unless you wouldn't mind wasting it if the 40 die within a couple of weeks.

I've got 10 in there now, they've been fine for a week. I have 30 coming from a member on these boards, the question is whether or not I should keep all of them.
