It's finally here! Fluval Ebi!

So I just unpacked my Ebi, I can't wait to get it started! I'll be scaping soon, I wanted to ask what is the cheapest/best way to add some height to the substrate, something I can put under the shrimp stratum to give some height. I have some plain river rock gravel but I don't know if this would be the best option

For height I will often use small plastic tubing, and stretch netting over it.
For example, I was doing a mountain and use PVC pipes and glued on plastic grates used for 'plant trays' from the local garden store.

Just make sure you dont create an area that can 'trap' too much waste. Makes your water levels go all funky

I then build from there, dry start. fill and voila!

re-glue the background or remove it I love my ebi, but I did change the light to an led one from truaqua the nano p type it is 50 free shipping, I did't like the idea of changing that bulb once a year at 12 bucks a year, you can find ways to use cheaper bulbs but it is a real hassle

+1 to re-glue or remove the background. Mine popped free maybe 3 months after the tank was set up.

I read the site yesterday sadly im in the USA, great site though!

That is a nice idea Livebearerlove thank you!

It seems I keep hearing that the backdrop comes off one way or another I gave it a pretty good pry test and it seems sturdy, but if they are popping off 3 months down the road that is no good either

I removed the background off both of my ebi's, because I heard of this problem, and also because i didn't like the look of it.

I think the idea of the background is nice. The textured surface can me used for growing moss, the shrimp can walk about on it. I like it in theory. But using Styrofoam was just a bad idea, I'm working with Hagen right now to see if they will send some replacement silicon to fix it. They really should have covered the back from side to side with lines of silicon, instead of the small dots they are using.

my background stayed on for 5 months or so, I was luckyish I had ordered a led light to replace the cfl and when I took the light off it came loose, so who knows how long the light had been holding it down
