New 5 Gallon Hex Ideas

I am starting a 5 gallon hex tank and I'm looking for ideas. So far I have the tank and a bag of Eco-Complete. What are good plants to start with that will do well in a tank this size? The tank has a screw-in fluorescent lamp that probably has no plant growing benefits, so I plan on replacing that.

If it was your tank and you were pretty new to plant growing, how would you set it up?

I started with low-light plants. I had a java fern, anubias, and banana plant in my 5g. They all grew really well and I still have two out of the three. The banana plant turned out to be a snack for some fish. I didn't use any fancy substrate since I was very new and couldn't justify spending so much money. I bought Floramax!
