thread algae

hello, after beating bluegreen algae im now in the grips of a thread algae attack. what causes it and what should i do to stop it from taking over my tank it seems realy realy thick and its only since i started using EI.

Why did you post this in the nano section?

I've found a good co2 level is good. excel spot treatments work, and manual removal. i usually let algae run wild for a week or two, then attack it with excel. if i were you, i'd stop dosing, the excess nutrients available are feulling the algae, more like a shot of Nos.

wait for your new plants, meanwhile, spot w/excel, and remove manually, don't dose ei, the hc will be fine w/o.

Wrong sub-forum but interesting as I, too, have just comprehensively beat B-G algae for the first time ever, via adding KNO3, only to end up with some thread algae. I figure upping the water changes, not dosing much, and adding Excel is helping though. To be honest I prefer this thread stuff to the stinky B-G so it will be a while before I really complain.
