vivarium under-tank heater?

can i use a vivarium under-tank heater to heat my 2.9gal nano? will i fry the plants? a normal internal heater looks a bit strange in the tank at the moment

If you are referring to ones for reptiles, then there is a possibility of cracking the glass. It will put too much heat out unless you have a thermostat contro'.

A better chose would be a hydroponic heat mat because you place it under the tank versus sticking it to the bottom of the tank.

just looked at various sites and wow we are talking serious money here! (well more than i have anyway) ive seen £55 upwards

I should have been more precise, but look at the "seedling heat mat" like the on found on this site.

I don't know how much is £55 converting to the US dollar, but it cost between $25 - $60 depending on the size you want.

Seems how you live in the UK, you have to quote Drs Foster and Smith in email which item number you want, where you live in the UK and its price.
