heating a 2.5

what sort of heater would be appropriate for a 2.5 gal? a notmal style heater will not fit and i have not found a heater cable short enough. at the moment i am using the lighting to heat the tank with 2hrs on 2 hrs off all day. is there a better way of doing this?

In my 2.5, I run a Hydor Mini, mounted in my little nanoish filter. It is on 1 hour after lights out, off 1 hour in the middle, back on and off 1 hour before lights on.

Seems to hold the temp within 1 degree or so.
I am running a Coralife 18W "Mighty Mini" fixture over it...

Depending on your room temperature, you might not need a heater. My house is ~70 degrees, my shrimp and endler's are happy as clams. Check out my signature to learn more.

You can always try nothing for awhile, then add a heater only if you truly observe problems. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

i think im gonna need to fix it now, as i looked this morning and noticed that it had dropped to 15deg c with the fry in it! i kinda panicked! for now i have dropped in a juwel 100w heater on the lowest setting and it is at a constant 27deg now. (theres no fish in the tank i took the heater from!!)

amazingly, the fry are all ok so far.
