Filterless 7.5 cube?

I've seen filterless bowls etc work, but I'm not sure about a tank as "large" as a 12" cube. I have one set up as a shrimp cube, and I was going to experiment with it. I wanted a clean look, so I had planned to drill the bottom and hide the in/out flow of a canister filter as I've seen done on reef cubes. However it would be much simpler to set up a filterless tank, but I'm not sure it would actually work. I'd plant it pretty heavily, but I'm worried about the combination of heavy planting + low bioload of shimp being workable without a filter.

Has anyone tried this before?

I guess it would work if you did very regular water changes. You should also invest in a good clean up crew with snails and such.

How I feel about non-planted aquariums.
