Nano USB powered tank - Concept
I have seen some of these nano tanks that are usb powered.. i don't like them much.. BUT i really like the idea. Both my wife and i have expressed interest in having a small tank at work, but plug loads are discouraged.
here is my thought:
USB powered pump and lighting. a powered USB hub or a usb charger would be considered acceptable.
my ideal setup would involve a .5-1 gallon tank, probably a traditional glass rectangular. Segregate a section of the tank for a filter/sump to hide the pump (and tune it beforehand to be as quiet as possible) integrate 1 or 2 small USB powered lights (like the ones you see for laptops, plug directly into the USB port) and add substrate and plant the tank.
Now, things I have not decided upon (and possibly, execution of these will dictate the method used) are:
· Air stone?
· Mechanical filter?
· Chemical filter?
· Possibly a small spray bar setup to agitate water instead of an air stone?
· Acrylic sub divider?
· Could a sump have additional capacity under a somewhat taller tank pull water in low through a mechanical filter the length of the tank and circulate it up to a spray head/spray bar along the opposite top?
· What plants?
· What fauna?
At this stage, this is still just spit-balling.. I’d LOVE to have input on this.
