Substrate Question

Hey Guys,

I've got a Fluval Spec V Project going, and I was wondering if the Super Naturals Black Tahitian Moon Sand was going to choke the roots of my micro sword I just planted. I'm planning on ordering some Seachem Flourish and Excel, and I wondered if that would be a decent setup to grow a little carpet. Let me know what you guys think.

Also, could I grow HC in this setup? I'm worried that the sand doesn't let enough water through.

I don't thing you're gonna have much luck with hc in that setup. Maybe mm, dhg or glosso?

Are any of those easier to grow, or grow into a carpet more readily than the others you mentioned?

Also, would you go for straight CO2, most likely http://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Mini-Pressurized-20g-CO2-Kit/dp/B0049RL3H4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1361887981&sr=8-3&keywords=fluval+co2 , or just go with the chemicals?
