Newbie, well kind of.....lighting question

Hi,

I have decided once again to try a planted tank. My past attempts were trying to convert established tanks into planted tanks. They were also deep tanks, 29G and 20H.

At one point I had 5+ tanks, I've been down to a 20H for years. Last week, I bought a Betta and a little acrylic tank. My cat loves my new purchase. He scratched up the tank already and he's stressing out my poor Betta. So, now I keep a pillowcase over the tank 90% of the time.

So, I've been thinking about setting up a nano planted (glass) tank. I ordered the Pico 3 today. Also, ordered Eco-Complete & Flourite.

I want this to be low maintainance and as inexpensive as possible.

I think I'm good on the substrate.

What about lighting???? Looking for inexpensive options.

I have an OttLight. Would the OttLight (energy efficient 15wHD) plus the light that comes with the tank work?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest using a Finnex 12" LED, a little pricy but totally worth it for nano tanks. The lighting depends on what kind of plants you want to grow...

How I feel about non-planted aquariums.

Thanks. I will check it out.

This is the reason I wasn't successful before, not enough lighting.
I couldn't afford them and I'm not good at the DIY ones.

Finnex - which one?

Ok. I've been looking at Finnex light. Amazon have few and not too expensive.

Which one would be good for a 3g planted?
