Dual head lamp suitable for planted tank?

Hey guys, I found this really cheap dual head lamp at Fry's Electronics. The price is only $9.90 and I plan to buy it the next time I go there (Thanksgiving sale ).
Here are the specs:

40-watt two-headed high intensity desk lamp, double flexible gooseneck design, 14" high, 3-way dial on/off switch, metal shades, electric red finish with chrome trim.
The question is: Is this lamp suitable for a planted tank with two daylight bulbs? I'm afraid the shades might have some significant affects on how much light is receive in the tank.
