5.5g plan, is 18w enough?

I'm going to start a 5.5g soon, and my plan in the groundcover/rocks only scaping plan which I am fond of. (I may add sprigs of hairgrass or something thin here and there but thats about it). Something like the first tank in the Amano step-by-step http://www.naturacquario.net/amano/

My question is, is 18w of CF light going to be enough over this thing to grow HC and/or glosso as the cover? I am NOT going to do CO2, but WILL do excel. I hated doing the dIY thing on my last 10g, and refuse to diy it. Pressurized is too expensive for this project right now.

I am planning on suspending the 9" coralife mini over it or the 17" Jalli (both 18w). I could shoot higher for the 12" one but that thing has 36w in it, and is twice as expensive. I also wonder about needing more co2 than excel at that light level.

Whatcha think, it'll be enough?

thx

hmm for glosso and hc i dont think 18 watts is enough espeically in a nano tank ... the WPG rule doesn't apply easily to small tanks

Well I did grow HC successfully under 28w on a 10g...(took forever to "get started" but once it did it spread quickly) but that had DIY co2 going on it..

12"high on the 10g vs 10"high on the 5.5, is the 10w difference made up on the 2" height difference?

Also, is there a good source for rocks (store or ebay?)
