10Gallon Iwagumi journal. Warning - Too awesome

Hello,

Excuse my awesomeness. im 17.

Just got back from a 4 year hiatus. Little known fact about me - Im from malaysia, where everything "planted tank" related is cheap and easy to find (Thank god for that) SOO With my State Level Exam around the corner cant help the feeling of boredom, all from studying, so i decided to start a little project on the sideline while i stress out (Like all asians do) for exams.

Tank specs -
45+/-3 (L)CM X 25+/-3CM x 27+/-3CM (Convert them yourself haha)
EDIT ; Found out that this may actually be around 10 Gallons rather than 7.7.
Substrate -
I opted for ADA Amazonia II cause i like darker substrates, but they ran out so they offered me a cheaper japanese branded soil from HELP (Stands for something but i forgot). Probably the same quality as its quite hard to gauge the quality of soil without being... like... and ultra expert or something, but i wouldnt know.

Filter -
Its not around here, but its on the way. Some Cheap china brand canister filter that works equally as good as other expensive filters. Cheap doesnt mean bad where i come from Oh and glass inlet and outlet cause its boss.

Lighting -
Another low budget thing going on. adding about 2-3WPG so i'll update it here whether i want to grab a t5 or something, or just make my own. DIY style. the light in the pichur is temporary by the way.

Co2 -
Its also not here yet, but on the way. Paintball Co2.

Flora and fauna -
Thinking of Cardinal tetras, like a load of them. Along with ottos and shrimps. Yes i know fish eat shrimps, but if they survive, they survive. Probably go with some Tiger Shrimps and RCS. If the local store still has Sulawesi cardinals and goldenflakes, then i'll just sulawesi up the tank instead. will update.

For the plants, im thinking of some Mini Hairgrass (Eleocharis sp) all over, and Eleocharis Vivipara in the back. Although, i have read that they are hard to maintain cause they grow fast and require loads of lighting.

Let me know what you think ! Will be updating this often!

Hello.

I'm no expert but I don't think the tank is big enough for cardinal tetras or ottos. You might want to just keep to shrimp.

That's true , sound like you'll be over stocked.
I think a shrimp only tank would be awesome though!

I dont think cardinal Sulawesi will work with the active substrate you put in that will lower your pH. They like a higher pH close to 8 and that substrate will buffer it to somewhere around 6.5.

Hello - Yea im kinda juggling between those two. ive had a similar sized tank with cardinals before and they seemed to be thriving. but obviously i wont be throwing in 20 of them, thatd be stupid. As for sulawesi - Yes i know, like i said if my mind changes, i'll just change a few things to suit the sulawesi shrimps instead. tho i have checked out the Local planted store and they have similar set ups with cardinals and it looks really awesome.

For the rocks - I cant remember the name but they were quite pricey by the Kilograms.

Awkward shrimp - I dont know how expensive they are around other places but i get mine at about 2MYR for RCS and pree much other low end shrimps are about there too. CRS are like 20MYR a piece for lower grades and can go up to 100 for higher grades depending on the supplier, breed quality and grade obviously. Sulawesi are about the same price too.

Thanks for the input guys! keep letting me know what you guys think so that i can improve little bits.

sorry for the wall of text

Stick with Small Fish and shrimps. I enjoy Least Killifish, don't take much work, breed and as they breed can create decent sized colonies in a 10g.

Do a little more research, know what you're getting and if it's right for you.
