18watt CF for 5 g

Ok, I finally ordered that 5g I kept talking about, so I was wondering if that coral life fixture, the 2 x 9watt one would cut it for me? I want a managable tank not a tank that doesn't seem to grow or grows too much. I will be using ada soil and powersand and excel for co2, top offs only. Fauna load will be heavy.

If not what do you suggest, I'm not really trying ah supply yet.

The mini aqualight is pretty small, it barely lights my 2.5 gallon evenly. It also has no mounting legs.

I've grown some crypt, e. tennellus, rotala, and baby tears. I don't add any CO2 or ferts. Baby tears grows the best, the rotala had really small leaves.

You should be able to grow those plants with the 18 watts CF. But, Bolbitis heudelotii can get pretty large. I don't think it would work too well in a 5 gallon. What are the dimensions of the tank? Its a great plant, but unless you have a tank with at least 10 inches of plantable height, I wouldn't go with it. Even 10 inches is pushing it. They can get to about 40 cm tall.

I think you will be ok. If it is too much you can always raise it above the water. I picked up a 2x18 PC shop light at a discount store for $12. Comes with 6500k bulbs. I have seen other posts on various forums about it. I took it apart and it is internaly darn near the same as the CL aqualight 2x18

Hey AZ,

Can you tell me where you got that light fixture? Curious as to where I should start looking for something like that.

Thanks.
