Haze's 5.5 gallon

Been on here for a while now and never posted pics of my tanks, so here is my newest. It is a 5.5 gallon dirt tank. The initial set up was Memorial day. Used about an inch of Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix and then about the same amount of black diamond blasting media. I re-used an old piece of Malaysian driftwood I had in my first 10 gallon tank. I am using a 13 watt spiral CFL in a 5.5 inch dome light, which is 15 inches above the substrate, (from the bottom of the dome).

In the initial setup I only used a few small crypts that I had and that Thursday I got some Marsilea Minuta. Yesterday was 2 weeks and already there is pretty good growth. Trying to figure out what other plants I want to use to finish it off. It was seeded with some filter media from my canister on the 30 gallon and was pretty much instantly cycled so I added my 2 remaining Harlequin Rasboras a couple days ago. I plan on eventually stocking it with 8 Boraras Brigittae.

I deleted the initial set up pics because I just couldnt get any good ones. So here are the pics from Tuesday, though still not that great.

And here are a couple shots of the new growth...These were all planted in groups of 2-3 stems as a reference. Just about every planting has at least 1 new leaf coming up and most have about 3. Marsilea loves dirt!

Future inhabitants...

Now....what plants should I get to finish it off?? I was thinking a few stems of Stauro Repens in place of the Crypt in front of the wood or maybe Erios, but I have heard they (Erios) need CO2 and wasnt planning on adding any to his tank. Then something a little taller to go behind the wood. Blxya? Or maybe something kind of "tree like" to look like trees coming off of the mountain shaped wood? Pogostemon Erectus kind of reminds me of pine trees....Have never had any of these so not sure how they would do.... Any other suggestions planted tank people?

Thanks for looking!

That's a really nice start. I think Blyxa would look good in that back corner.

Thanks guys! Still trying to figure out how I want to finish the planting, but the Marsilea is still spreading well. I will get some pics up in a few days.

Just a quick update. This tank is doing pretty well, never have added anything else to it, well a did throw a couple plants in the HOB, but other than that it is just chugging along. The Crypts love the dirt and the Marsilea is still spreading.

The 2 harlequins have been doing the upside down wiggle dance a lot, but I have yet to see any eggs. Well, last week when we were sitting down to eat dinner (this tank is on a shelf next to the dinner table) I look at the tank like always, and there is a baby!!! It is about .5cm long, it is so cool. First baby I've had. I have heard that Harlequins are kinda hard to get to breed, so I never even thought about it, but having seen them doing the mating dance I kinda got my hopes up, but like I said, I have yet to see any eggs, but I've got a little Harlequin swimmin around! It'll be hell tryin to get a pic but I will see what I can do.

I changed out the HOB for a sponge to reduce current and he seems to utilize more of the tank now.
