Cold water nano?

Has anyone tried a cold-water planted nano?

I have cycled a small tank (25L/6gallon) and have 16W of light and a huge external filter (recycled from my 'normal' planted tank) and I'm looking to stock it pretty soon. I was thinking of a shoal of white cloud minnow but I'm a bit stuck about algae eaters. Are there any small cold water algae eaters?

Any other info would be welcome too - i can't find much on the web at all! I'm trying my tropical plants in it at the moment (vallis, sag and crypts) and hope that they should do OK at room temp?

Oh, and I have lots of cherry red shrimps in my planted tank - will they survive in a room temp tank?

Thanks in advance

hillstream loach as your coldwater algae eater...might be a bit more advanced though.

vals and sag should do ok at cooler temps. moss definitely loves colder water.

dont keep cherry shrimp if you plan on keeping your tank below 70F. I've had my cherry shrimp (back when i had them) survive outside in water temps that were around 49F - very cold stuff. But yours may not be so lucky. if you dont care about breeding them in that tank, then try them. they just wont breed below 70F or so.

Thanks for that Newman. The temp will drop quite low in winter as the tank is in my classroom at school (I'm a teacher) and they turn the heating off during the holidays! Do you happen to know how Anubis does at lower temps? I have a ton of it flowering in my planted tropical tank and hate throwing it away.

Thanks again and that shrimp bowl of yours looks really cool.

Sorry to bump this but...anyone out there tried a cold water nano? Does java fern or anubis do ok in room temp (UK) water? And can I keep shrimp with white cloud minnow?

Thank again
