Need some advice for New 6G rimless

I just picked up a 6G rimless at LFS for 13$.

Planning on a low light- no co2 planted tank for 3 Female bettas that get along great together. I am trying to keep this low cost, and will rob trimmings from my other tanks.

-1.5" MTS under 2" cap of black diamond sand
-A dual sponge filter
-Spare driftwood pieces
-Maybe some java fern and xmas moss for starters.

What suggestions do people have for some budget lighting?
This will be my first go at a dirt tank, should I plan on running a HOB at first to clear the water then switch in some pre cycled foam filters? Or will the dirt particles be minimal enough to run the foam filter right away?
