Do my new rocks warrant a new tank!?!?!

So I was at a new fish store recently and found a nice selection of rocks that they called "cliff rocks". I dont have a tank for them but they have so much character that I may need to start a new tank for them. The pictures dont do them justice but here they are.

keep in mind they could have an adverse effect on your PH.

Those belong in a structural geology classroom by the looks of it!

Check if the rock fizzes under acid (especially the finer grained "glue" between the darker strata) to make sure it isn't going to dissolve or alter your pH.

Ive had several geology classes in college and I'm pretty sure its slate but I will probably test it anyways. Not too worried. I'm more worried about my finance letting me start a new tank lol

It could be... but even slate could have some carbonaceous minerals in it. I'm not familiar with WI geology (mostly just northeast), or even if it came from WI since it was at a retail store, but it's worth verifying Good luck, it's really a gorgeous rock I am jealous!

Will boiling rocks for a certain amount of time alleviate any concerns of water destabilization? I picked up a beautiful rock this weekend and am afraid of adding it to my tank.
