Aqueon Evolve 2 or 2+ gallon cylinder vase?

I picked up both today for almost the same price (clearance sale). The Aqueon evolve 2 holds just under 2 gallons, 1/2 a gallon can not be used by fish as it's where the filter is in the back. So usable space is 1.5 gallons.

The cylinder vase is taller then wide. But just as big around as the aqueon. It fits 2 gallons with about 4 inches of extra space at the top. No filter.

What would be better for shrimp? Going to do a planted low tech tank and will sit on my coffee table under a lamp.

Eheim 2217 & 2236, 2-39wt T5 bulbs (10,000), 72-75*
Pristella tetras, cardinal tetra, amano shirmp, bamboo shrimp, nerite snails, assassin snails and red cherry shrimp.

what, you got the Evolve 2 for the same price as a glass vase? That must've been cheap! I would go with the Evolve, as you can better control filtration and manage the tank better. However, the vase will work too if you want to go for that look. It will just be a Walstad style shrimp bowl instead. If you're keeping RCS or other hardy shrimp, either will be just fine. It's just your preference then. If keeping more fragile shrimp, I'd recommend the filtered evolve for better control of the water and flow, which is always good to have.

Vase was $13 at TJMaxx and the evolve was $15 on clearance at Petco.

I'm trying to decided what is better. Smaller tank with filter, or larger tank no filter. It's a good 1/2+ gallon difference. Looking at RCAs. How many could I keep in these size "tanks"?

P.S. Also got the evolve 8 for $25! Thinking about turning that into my very first salt water tank...

Be wary, Saltwater gets more and more unforgiving the smaller you go.

Would love more input on going with the evolve or vase for the fresh water, shrimp tank. Thanks!
