5.5g CO2 advice

Here's my 5.5g.

Is there a small scale CO2 formula using a 20oz bottle that's safe? What about an Excel dose?

I just started adding a small, and I mean small, pinch of CSM+B and approximately. 50ml of Excel.

I have scarlet badis and endlers in the tank.

the CO2 you need is based the amount of light you have.

i would just fill the 20oz bottle the usual way (sugar to 1/3 height, water, pinch of yeast, pinch of baking soda if you feel like it) and let it do its thing. it will take at least a week for CO2 production to peak, in that time watch your fish for signs of CO2 overdose stress.

I'd bet a 2 liter bottle would be fine also. Production is really slow.

I used a pepsi bottle (not the liter but the ones from vending machines) for co2 in a 5.5g before and from what I can remember the co2 was at okay levels.

The bulk of your plants are slow growers and the tank is small so a 500 ml bottle of excel would last you 200 days if you dose 2.5 ml (half cap full) daily and just skip the larger dose Seachem recommends for the first day, this would be clean and easy plus help the tank fight off any algae, the kicker is it only will cost you about $20 per year.

I have 2 large bottles of Excel already on hand.

So 2.5mg huh? I was basing the amount on the 10ml per 10g directions. I get. 50ml daily.

Its 5ml for every 50 gallons so you'd only need 0.5ml

10mL per gallon daily is waay too much excel. Usually most do around 1mL/10 gallons daily. that would give you roughly 0.5 mL

An easy way is to use drops from a dropper. Find the amount of drops a cap holds and go from there.
